The range above is an indicative planning figure taken from our own research, not a quotation and not an offer. buytogethr is pre-launch and has closed no pools.

What you are actually buying

A mobile unit takes the radiography to the patient: a generator and tube on a wheeled chassis, a collapsible column and arm, an onboard console, and on a digital unit a wireless flat panel. Quotes diverge on generator output, on whether the drive is motorised or the unit is pushed, on battery chemistry and the number of exposures available per charge, on whether a detector is included or shared with the fixed room, and on weight and footprint. Buyers commonly select on generator power alone, then find the unit too wide for an ICU bay or too heavy for the lift, or that its panel cannot be swapped with the ones the department already owns.

Why portable x-ray suits collective purchasing

A mobile unit pools well because it is close to a standard product within a specification band. There is no siting study, no civil work and no room to build, so a group can agree one specification quickly and every participant receives genuinely the same item. Demand is broad: most institutions with an ICU or a maternity ward need at least one, and larger facilities need several, so a pool reaches useful volume without needing the largest hospitals in it. Few variables also means the technical qualification stage is short, which matters when a group is running its first aggregated purchase.

Pin down before price

  • Generator output and the number of exposures available from a full charge
  • Motorised drive, total weight and turning footprint measured against your narrowest ward door and lift
  • Detector size, wireless working, and whether the panel is interchangeable with those in the fixed room
  • Collimator light, laser positioning aids and the tube height range needed for bedside and cot work
  • Onboard DICOM sending over hospital wireless, and what the unit does when the network drops

What drives ten-year cost

  • Battery pack replacement is predictable and recurring; get the pack price and rated cycle life in writing
  • Detector damage, the commonest failure on a machine pushed between wards, and whether cover extends to it
  • AERB registration and periodic quality assurance apply to the mobile unit as they do to the fixed room

How a pool for this runs

1
Aggregate the demand. Institutions register a requirement and a timeline. Nothing is committed and nothing is paid — the pool simply establishes how much demand exists in one window.
2
Standardise the specification. One technical specification is written for the pooled requirement, so every bidder quotes the same machine. Clinical and engineering specification is never traded away for price.
3
Qualify the suppliers. OEMs and authorised distributors are qualified on manufacturer authorisation, past performance, end-user certificates, financials and demonstration — before any price is opened.
4
Run the price competition. Only technically qualified bidders enter an online reverse auction, with a minimum decrement and automatic extension so the close cannot be sniped.
5
Award on ten-year cost. Lowest is judged on total cost of ownership over ten years — machine, turnkey, software, accessories, transport, insurance, taxes, warranty, maintenance contract, tubes, uptime and training.
6
Buy directly, individually. Each institution raises its own purchase order against the negotiated price and pays the OEM or dealer directly. buytogethr never takes title, never holds stock and never holds your money.
