The range above is an indicative planning figure taken from our own research, not a quotation and not an offer. buytogethr is pre-launch and has closed no pools.

What you are actually buying

A power tool set is handpieces plus attachments plus a sterilisation case, driven by battery, compressed air or mains. The specification decides more than it appears to: the coupling and chuck standards fix which pins, wires, burrs, reamers and saw blades the theatre can use afterwards, and the battery count decides whether a list runs or stalls. A single battery is not a working system; a case needs a charged spare and an aseptic transfer method. Buyers often compare sets on handpiece count alone, then discover the chuck will not take the wires already in stock, or that the case exceeds what the sterilisation cycle can turn round between cases.

Why power drill system suits collective purchasing

Orthopaedic equipment is flagged in the founding analysis as attractive to aggregate, with surgeon preference and compatibility named as genuine constraints, and both apply squarely here. The hardware pools where a group can agree a coupling standard; where it cannot, forcing one is how a pool loses its surgeons. The practical route is to qualify two or three systems technically, let each institution choose within that qualified set, and carry the aggregated volume across all of them into the commercial schedule. Evaluate on blades, burrs and batteries as well as handpieces, since the consumable is what the coupling standard locks in.

Pin down before price

  • Power source and, for battery systems, batteries and chargers per set plus the aseptic transfer method
  • Coupling and chuck standards checked against the pins, wires, burrs and blades already in your theatre
  • Attachments listed individually with speed and torque: drill, reamer, oscillating and sagittal saw, wire driver
  • Cannulation where guidewire work is intended, and irrigation arrangements for thermal control
  • Sterilisation case included or not, the validated cycle, and the cycles the handpiece is rated for

What drives ten-year cost

  • Saw blades and burrs, single use or limited reuse, the largest recurring line by a wide margin
  • Battery packs and chargers, with a stated cycle life rather than an open-ended one
  • Handpiece service intervals, and whether a loan unit is provided while yours is away
  • Reprocessing load, which rises with every extra handpiece and tray added to the set

How a pool for this runs

1
Aggregate the demand. Institutions register a requirement and a timeline. Nothing is committed and nothing is paid — the pool simply establishes how much demand exists in one window.
2
Standardise the specification. One technical specification is written for the pooled requirement, so every bidder quotes the same machine. Clinical and engineering specification is never traded away for price.
3
Qualify the suppliers. OEMs and authorised distributors are qualified on manufacturer authorisation, past performance, end-user certificates, financials and demonstration — before any price is opened.
4
Run the price competition. Only technically qualified bidders enter an online reverse auction, with a minimum decrement and automatic extension so the close cannot be sniped.
5
Award on ten-year cost. Lowest is judged on total cost of ownership over ten years — machine, turnkey, software, accessories, transport, insurance, taxes, warranty, maintenance contract, tubes, uptime and training.
6
Buy directly, individually. Each institution raises its own purchase order against the negotiated price and pays the OEM or dealer directly. buytogethr never takes title, never holds stock and never holds your money.
