Hormone and marker testing; reagent-linked recurring spend.
The range above is an indicative planning figure taken from our own research, not a quotation and not an offer. buytogethr is pre-launch and has closed no pools.
An immunoassay platform is bought with its chemistry attached. Thyroid, fertility, cardiac and tumour marker assays run on kits made only by the instrument's manufacturer, so the assay menu, the pack sizes and the calibrator frequency per lot form part of the purchase whether or not they appear in the quotation. Quotes differ on random-access and STAT running, which decides whether a cardiac marker can be turned round for the emergency department at all; on onboard refrigerated reagent capacity; and on how long an opened kit stays usable. The frequent error is weighing two consoles against each other while the kit price list stays open, or accepting an instrument placed against a committed test volume without pricing that against outright purchase over the same years.
This line pools for a different reason from the rest of the pathology bench. The reagent is locked to the platform, so competition has to happen before the instrument is chosen rather than after, which is precisely what an aggregated buy allows. Bring several institutions' hormone and marker workloads into one committed volume, qualify platforms technically, then let suppliers compete on a multi-year kit schedule with a written escalation cap. Alone, a mid-size hospital has too little volume to move a kit price. Together, the same buyers are the recurring test stream the manufacturer is actually selling into.
